Narrative and performcane in our Music production

Narrative will play a big part in our music production. We will be starting the video off with an argument scene at the beginning that will in which the sound will be muffled so you cant quite make out what they are saying. We will then use the basis of this scene to play the song. We wanted to use a narrative in the music video in order to entertain our audience and attempt to make the video rememberable. We will use narrative in a large proportion of our opening to the video and will use a number of different conventions to set the scene for the song.

As we get further into the song we will use performance with the lead singer. We will cut continuously from the narrative the lead singer singing the song which will give us a mix of performance and narrative. We will have to be cautious about finding the right levels of narrative and performance and also making sure we use the two in the correct places. The risk of using to much performance could put the audience off seeing the narrative, or caring about it. The risk of using to much narrative would mean that the cuts of performance would feel out of place and too random to bother using.

It will only be towards the end of the song that we will use the whole band as a performance part of the video. This is to show the audience the whole band but also reduces the risk of not over using narrative in the production. We want the whole band to be in the video but felt it would be best to only use them to round the song off towards the end.

We have spoken about the possibility of just using narrative in the whole video and having no performance at all. This way the narrative would be stronger and more memorable to the audience. However, using performance gives the audience a sense of who the band are. With performance it is a form of advertisement for the band and their style/music. Therefore we decided it is best for the production to be a mix of narrative and performance. It will certainly be a challenge but we believe it is the best form of music production to achieve our aims.
