One of our biggest influences when planning our music promo was Oasis's Cigarettes and alcohol, using conventional Indie Rock promo techniques and having a balance between performance and narrative was something that we took on board as a group.
Our original music promo idea came from a more narratve based Idea, however we were soon swayed towards having much more performance in order to promote the band and match the style of the song. Cigarettes and Alcohol has a segment of narrative in order to suit the the song. For example the line 'Looking for some action but all I found was cigarettes and alcohol' is represented in the narrative of the video a number of times.
however much of the song contains alot of performance and withing the perfromance sections we see a number of shots that promote the band and inform the audience of the style and image of the band. This is one of the biggest influences that we took from this video and we wanted to replicate the amount of narrative and performance in our promo in order to do the same thing.
Here you can see the use of a close-up shot. This is conventional in an Indie Rock promo and is used to promote the members of the band and inform the audience.
This close-up shot was a shot we also used in our promo. It is used in order to inform audience members of the band and is typical an the Indie Rock genre.
This canted angle medium shot is something we took inspiration from. The edting of Cigarettes and Alcohol suits the pace of the song and is very fast paced which means a canted angle shot fits in with the video.
This is a medium shot of the Liam, which again infroms and promotes. It is a typical shot in a Indie Rock promo that contains alot of performance rather than narrative.
This medium side angle shot contains two members of the band, again informing and promoting the band to the audience.
This shot features a good use of shadows over the lead singer. Possibly portraying an image of the band to the audience and fitting the bands representation of themselves to the audience.
This is a quick shot of the drummer, all of the shots of the individual band were in quick succession with the fast cut editing used which suited the style of the song.
Part of the narrative. Relating to the song name, these shots are only very breif as the promo contains mostly performance.
This medium shot again is informative and promoting the band. the lighting also works well with the image of the band.
This promo gave us many ideas and we used alot of the shots that were used in this promo. We decided to aim towards much more performance than narrative and this promo was one of the reasons why we decided to do so.The use of close-ups, medium shots, lighting and fast cut editing was something that would suit our song and promote/inform the band to the audience.
